In 86, I didn't have a clue what was going on - from start to finish - and the arrival of RLM in 87 was a revelation. As Graham says, you've provided the longevity and the consistent link throughout this time - although I freely admit that I loved nothing more than the banter between you and Ian Titchmarsh - the perfect pairing, in my view. I was on one of the many coaches leaving the city on Friday afternoon. An unforgetable weekend which left an indelable mark on me. Thanks for the memories, Paul and also for the longevity - I was really pleased to hear your voice when I finally got back to La Sarthe last year, when so much had changed, you kept the link back to my first visit.Graham Readnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8101784122100352616.post-3608626049613908252012-11-12T23:30:39.614+00:002012-11-12T23:30:39.614+00:00'88 was my first ever Le Mans Paul. As a 12yea...'88 was my first ever Le Mans Paul. As a 12year old Coventry kid I travelled with my Father who worked at Jaguar. We were guests of Magnetti Marelli and had a tent just after the Porsche Curves. We had a hotel room that we never used. We were so engrossed we slept on the floor of the hospitality tent. I had a RLM radio in a little pouch keeping me company through the night

The atmosphere was amazing and the scenes when the #2 won come flooding back. I could still hear the cars in my ears when I got home but it was magical.

One bizarre memory is after the race when they opened the public parts very soon after the race. People were bombing up and down and I remember two Brits in a Capri T-boning a Porsche and making a mess. That was not the end of the story though as the car actually belonged to the girlfriend of one of the drivers who emerged most displeased, and even more so when it became clear the two guys had been showing off to two other female passengers. I learnt some new words English and French that dayNeil Woodingnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8101784122100352616.post-238635462720733122012-11-12T13:44:10.929+00:002012-11-12T13:44:10.929+00:00Lovely article Paul.
